Last week, students from Years 1 to 6 participated in a vibrant series of online webinars on digital wellbeing and safety, delivered by ySafe, Australia's leading provider of cyber safety education.
These sessions weren’t just informative - they were empowering, equipping students with the tools and confidence to thrive in the digital age. Tailored to the developmental stage of the students, each presentation offered engaging content and practical strategies to help them navigate the online world with confidence and care.
Years 1 & 2 explored the foundations of online safety through a story-based adventure. Students learned how to identify and protect Personal Private Information (PPI), create strong passwords and usernames, and seek help when needed. These early lessons laid the groundwork for a lifetime of safe digital habits.
Years 3 & 4 engaged in game-based learning activities that reflected the digital platforms they might use often. The session focused on chatting safely online, protecting private information, and strategies to seek out help. Encouraging thoughtful reflection and empowering students to make smarter choices online.
Years 5 & 6 tackled more complex topics such as cyberbullying, responsible digital communication, stranger danger, and doxing. They were challenged to become leaders in their digital communities - making positive choices, standing up for others, and using technology to uplift and connect.
Teachers across all year levels praised the sessions for their relevance, age-appropriate delivery, and ability to spark meaningful conversations among students.
Key Takeaways for Families:
Online Friends:
Ask these 3 questions before connecting with online strangers:
Do you know their real name?
Have you met them in real life?
Do your parents know them?
5 People they can talk to:
Ensure your children have 5 trusted adults they can talk to if they need help with navigating the online world. Ask them, what number am I on your list?
Keep Personal Private Information (PPI) safe:
Never share your name, age, school, address, usernames, or phone number online.
