Year 5 students headed to Gold Coast Beach with Clean Shorelines, a Hong Kong government–led environmental programme on 25 February. Armed with gloves and trash bags, students worked together to remove rubbish from the beach whilst learning about the environmental impact of different types of rubbish. After the clean‑up, students linked their observations to recent Science lessons on erosion by investigating the beach landscape and creating labelled diagrams showing how natural forces shaped local rock formations. The data collected will now support learning across multiple subject areas, with students graphing their findings in Maths, using their experiences to write persuasive texts in English encouraging action for a more sustainable future, and continuing to explore erosion and human impact in Science.
"It was really fun to help make our community cleaner and represent our school. My highlight was picking up all of the trash while talking to my friends." - Year 5 student.
