We have had a wonderful start to Term 2. In Primary, we are grateful to be back in routine with the first full week of the term! The campus has been bustling with activity, including many Primary sporting events, excursions, and our core business of rigorous learning opportunities.

On Friday, 2 May, our teachers attended the Positive Schools Conference for a professional learning day. These P.L days are invaluable as they provide time to think, reflect, and learn together as a team. Two speakers particularly resonated with me. The first discussed the importance of student voice and its direct links to the wellbeing of young people. When students have a voice, they feel connected to their community, fostering a strong sense of belonging through their actions.

On Saturday, 3 May, Susan McLean, an expert in cyber safety, presented. She is a well-known presenter in Australia, having served in the Victorian police for 27 years, and has firsthand experience with the damage unsupervised device usage can cause young children. At AISHK, we plan to invite Susan to work with our Primary and Secondary students in 2026, as she has visited before and we believe she would significantly impact our community. She shared three main non-negotiable tips for parents:

1. Devices need to be stored and charged outside of bedrooms.

2. Parents should regularly check their children's online interactions.

3. Parents and children should discover the wonders of the online world together.

While the teaching staff attended the conference, our professional administration staff participated in team-building workshops, professional learning about neurodiversity, and discussions about their roles. Thank you to our community for supporting the ongoing development and learning at our school.

Last week, we held a Primary assembly where we highlighted the great work that Ms Ashton and the Environmental Committee are doing. They have introduced new classroom recycling bins to match the communal corridor bins and emphasised the effort being made by AISHK to improve our environmental impact. Please encourage your children to explain the purpose of recycling, and you could even locate your nearest recycling depot here in Hong Kong.

I spoke to the Primary students about our school expectations regarding uniform, including hats, hair, and jewellery. Please help your children wear the correct uniform, hair accessory colours, and remember their hat each day. We are incredibly proud of the AISHK image and are committed to upholding our school values. We have reminded students of our Sun Smart policy of ‘No Hat, No Play,’ and they have responded very well. If a child forgets their hat, they will sit in the Billabong area where we have provided quiet activities.

Please do not hesitate to contact the Primary Office, primaryoffice@aishk.edu.hk if you have any concerns, discussion points, or new ideas. The partnership between home and school continues to be strong to ensure the needs of our community are being met.
