This term sees the launch of an Artist in Residence project, part of the School's 30th anniversary celebrations. This project offers all students an opportunity to work alongside a professional artist, learning firsthand about the artistic process from concept to completion.
The artist in question is Francesco Lietti. Lietti is a Hong Kong based artist whose work has been displayed at venues city wide. His work often includes cityscapes and the Hong Kong skyline using a unique collage technique.
Students will paint elements of Hong Kong’s natural landscapes, such as the ocean, mountains and sky. They will then draw images that represent the city to them, such as trams, taxis and buildings. Francesco will color-copy these drawings and collage them onto the canvases, creating a vibrant depiction of Hong Kong through the eyes of our students.
The final artwork will consist of four large canvases, which will be displayed on the ninth floor corridor. To ensure longevity, high-resolution photographs of the canvases will be printed on metal panels and installed in the atrium outside the auditorium, allowing the artwork to be enjoyed for years to come.
Francesco will work closely with Year 4 and Year 5 students over a four-week period from August to September. Secondary students and other primary students will also have opportunities to contribute and interact with Lietti during his residency.
Julie Emery, Primary Visual Arts Co-Ordinator, shared, "What I’m looking forward to most is students being able to have that real-life experience of working with an artist. We learn about many artists in class, but meeting and creating with one brings a whole new level of excitement and inspiration.”
"The Artist in Residence Project is especially meaningful as it coincides with AISHK’s 30th anniversary, making the final artwork not just a celebration of creativity, but also a commemorative piece that honors our school community."
Stay tuned for updates and behind-the-scenes moments!
