On 3 April, Year 10-12 student council members, deputy school captains, and school captains attended an inter-school conference hosted by the Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS). We spent the day attending programmes focused on improving student leadership by introducing new skills through a combination of workshops and collaborative activities.
The conference began with an introductory session that reinforced the fundamentals of leadership. Participating schools introduced themselves through video presentations showcasing various initiatives. These presentations served as an icebreaker demonstrating the different ways student councils can positively impact their school communities. We attended specialized workshops. I found my workshop on conflict resolution quite insightful, as the presenter utilised real-world scenarios to help us understand and apply psychological techniques in our own council work. We participated in an interactive session where we documented successful initiatives from our school. This exchange allowed us to examine different leadership approaches and strategies while sharing and receiving constructive feedback from other schools. This was followed with engaging team-building exercises, including a human knot challenge and a competitive murder mystery game that tested our problem-solving skills while competing to be the fastest team to finish for a chance to get ring pops.
Following the day's activities, we returned to the theatre for the concluding ceremony, where we were encouraged to network with other schools. Everyone enthusiastically exchanged key takeaways from the workshops and shared how they planned to implement these ideas in their student councils. We gained invaluable experience as we shared best practices and innovative ideas with student leaders and established meaningful connections with each other, creating networks for possible future collaborations. Thank you to everyone involved who made this conference possible.
