The Year 9 cohort embarked on an adventurous journey at Outward Bound in Sai Kung during Activity Week 2025. Equipped with 20kg backpacks, we pitched tents and embraced the simplicity of camp life.
Despite initial apprehensions, the preparation and debriefing sessions helped many of us feel ready to tackle the challenges ahead. Whether stepping out of our comfort zones or feeling confident from the start, everyone had a memorable experience at Outward Bound.
Upon arrival at the base, we were divided into groups and introduced to our instructors. We received our official Outward Bound bags and began the task of packing our gear, including food, tents, and cooking equipment. It was a learning experience in itself, teaching us the importance of prioritising essentials when preparing for an expedition—an experience that many of us had never had to consider when travelling.
The following days were both challenging and rewarding. We hiked between 4-10km daily, using only a compass and map to navigate the routes. The hikes tested our endurance, but with teamwork and determination, we supported each other through every step. One unforgettable moment occurred on day three when we had to precisely time our walk to meet a pick-up truck for additional rations. Despite the strict schedule and mounting pressure, our collective effort allowed us to arrive ahead of time.
Some camp highlights included rock climbing, where we demonstrated resilience and courage navigating a challenging course, and the jetty-jump on the last day, where we leaped off a five-meter platform into the water, celebrating our achievements.
Throughout our time at Outward Bound, we learned valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and self-reliance. We are grateful to our instructors, teachers, and teammates for their support and encouragement. Their guidance made this journey an unforgettable experience.
As we look back on our time at Outward Bound, we appreciate the challenges we faced and the friendships we formed. This experience has prepared us for future adventures, including possibly an upcoming Silver AYP Journey.
