“I learned the difference between an alligator and a crocodile. Did you know alligators show their teeth and have round noses?”
“Flamingos sleep standing on one foot!”
“There are over 10 million bacteria in just one teaspoon of soil!”
These were just a few of the curious observations made by our Year 2 students during their educational visits to Kadoorie Farm on 3 and 4 September. The excursions were designed to enrich their understanding of plant life and life cycles as part of their Science curriculum.
A highlight of the trip was the “Talk to Plants” workshop, where students explored what plants need to thrive and how they respond to care and attention. Each student also potted their own plant to take home to continue observing and nurturing.
Students also toured the farm’s wildlife enclosures, encountering animals like alligators and flamingos, which sparked awe and appreciation for biodiversity and the interdependence of living things.
Colin Young, Head of Year 2 said, "The visit provided a valuable hands-on learning experience that reinforced classroom concepts in a real-world setting. Students demonstrated great enthusiasm and curiosity throughout the trip, and the activities helped foster a sense of responsibility and care for the natural world. The visit brought classroom concepts to life, fostering curiosity, responsibility, and a love for the natural world."
