On Wednesday 20 May, the Year 11 boys had the opportunity to visit Kellett School to attend an engaging and thought-provoking men’s health talk delivered by Ryan Parke. This presentation aimed to break down common misconceptions, promote healthy lifestyle choices, and encourage conversations among young men on topics that are often overlooked.
Ryan Parke is a men’s coach and Ted Talk speaker specialising in the links between lifestyle, hormones and male mental health. He spoke openly about the pressures young men face today, including expectations around masculinity, performance, and emotional expression. His expertise, relatability and approachable style made it easy for us students to connect with the material and created a safe space to ask questions and challenge stereotypes.
The key focus of the talk was testosterone, a hormone often misunderstood and surrounded by myths. Ryan explained its important role in physical health, mood, overall wellbeing and healthy habits/lifestyle choices that young men can take to increase testosterone.
Top 5 lifestyle choices that can increase testosterone:
8+ Hours of sleep nightly
Healthy diet (low processed sugar)
150+ minutes of exercise per week
Vitamin D3
Sobriety
What made the talk particularly memorable was its interactive nature. Students participated in activities and discussions in small groups and altogether, making the learning experience more engaging and further reinforced the key ideas.
Overall, the session encouraged students to think about their health and wellbeing and learn about strategies young men can take to improve their overall mental health, leaving students with a better understanding of their health and the confidence to take care of it.
