AISHK launched its second Artist in Residence project, with textile artist Becky Gilmore from Make and Do HK. Becky has been guiding students from Reception to Year 6 through a range of hands-on activities, including stamping on cloth, weaving and sewing, this week.
The final project will be a series of woven House flowers - Waratah, Jacaranda, Eucalypt and Wattle - to be installed in the atrium later this term.
Here's what students had to say:
"I liked stamping the patterns in all the different colours." - Year 2 student
"I haven't tried weaving before. It's fun working with different colours and I'm excited to see it displayed in the school." - Year 3 student
Becky is a textile artist with a background in the textiles and fashion industry, she specialises in mural work, fibre-based installations, and creative practices using yarn and fabric, often incorporating sustainable and recycled materials. She has worked extensively with schools in Hong Kong, conducting workshops that encourage creativity, experimentation and artistic exploration.
This project has been made possible through funds raised during our first Artist in Residence project with Francesco Lietti, continuing AISHK's commitment to enriching the Arts on campus.
