On Saturday, March 29, more than 20 AISHK students from Years 9 - 12 took to the streets of Kowloon for Flag Day, volunteering their time and energy in support of the Life Commitment Charity Club (HKL3C). This meaningful initiative gave students the opportunity to make a tangible difference to the lives of Hong Kong’s elderly population, many of whom rely on vital community support services.
Hong Kong is now home to the world’s highest life expectancy, with an average of 85.5 years. While this is a testament to its healthcare system and quality of life, it also highlights the growing need to care for and support the city’s ageing population. HKL3C plays a crucial role in addressing this, offering one-stop support services to elderly residents in need across the city.
Through Flag Day, our students helped raise funds to support these efforts. Working in small groups, students met at the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station before spreading out across the district, engaging with members of the public and collecting donations to aid HKL3C’s mission. This experience encouraged empathy, a new perspective and community awareness.
We would like to offer special thanks to Ms Lisa Darby and Mr Pravin Bhardwaj, who supported and accompanied the students during the event. A heartfelt thanks also goes to Aidan Chan (Year 12), whose outstanding leadership helped bring this event together. Aidan’s initiative, supported by Sophie and Valerie ensured the day ran smoothly and successfully for all involved.
Experiences like Flag Day go beyond service hours—they help shape socially conscious young people who understand the power of giving back. We are proud of all the students who participated and grateful for the support of their families in encouraging such involvement.
The YES Club looks forward to working with the student body to hold more events like this and to continue contributing to the wider Hong Kong community!
