This year’s Box of Hope campaign saw a strong representation from both Primary and Secondary. Community Service Prefects James Goh and Sophie Tang coordinated the initiative, working to ensure the message reached everyone in the school.
While Box of Hope has long been a staple in the Primary school, Sophie noted that Secondary involvement needed a boost, “In previous years, Secondary students were involved, but it wasn’t actively promoted. This year, we visited homerooms and emphasized the purpose and impact of the campaign and it’s inspiring to see teachers and students asking for extra stickers to make more than one box.”
James explained, “We went to all the classes and told them about what, Box of Hope is, how easy it is to do, and who would benefit - children in Cambodia, Pakistan and Hong Kong. Promoting the campaign was a lot of work, but worth it. There are definitely more Secondary boxes this year than before."
Beyond Box of Hope, James and Sophie lead the YES Club. Their goal is to create ongoing service opportunities for students from Year 9 onwards and encourage collaboration between Primary and Secondary students.
“We’ve been here since Primary and saw the YES Club in action before COVID. Our goal is to bring it back and provide that experience for younger students,” Sophie explained.
James added, “As global citizens, we have a social responsibility and this is how we want to help.”
