Music for the Millions Concert
The AISHK Performing Arts department hosted, Music for the Millions, on 6 March, a concert programme from the LCSD Music Office Chinese Music Ensemble. The programme introduced students to the sound of the Chinese Ensemble, then solo musicians performed short pieces which showcased the varied and unique sound of their instruments. With a mix of traditional and contemporary music, the concert was tied together by an ecological theme.
"We enjoyed the solo feature from the suona: the soloist used advanced performance techniques to mimic the sound of bird call." - Winston and Sabrina Year 10 Music.
Izzy and Kim, Year 7 musicians: “We enjoyed 'The Fisherman's Song', it was a dramatic end to the concert with loud percussion. It was energetic, and it made the audience want to dance."
Mina Dunstan reconnected with sheng master Loo Sze-Wang, who visited AISHK last year whilst collaborating with world-renowned digeridoo player William Barton.
Music Teacher, Vindy Ho said: "We really valued this opportunity, and the students came back with many wonderful comments and feedback about the concert, in particular the individual showcase of the instruments and the pieces performed were engaging with a mix of traditional and contemporary repertoire. Not to mention the outstanding professionalism and skill of the musicians has no doubt inspired our students."
Thanks to Ms Ho for organising the concert with the Music Office, Michael San Juan and the tech team for lighting and sound, and the facilities staff for preparing the auditorium.
