Term 1 has been an extremely busy but highly rewarding one, with countless opportunities for our students to connect, strive and flourish. They have shown great enthusiasm, commitment and resilience, prospering both inside and outside the classroom. Yesterday’s interim reports provide a mere snapshot of their efforts and progress.

Monday’s athletics carnival was a fantastic showcase of student participation and House spirit. Under glorious skies, events were keenly contested and an impressive number of new school records were set. Congratulations and thank you to Mr Van Gaalen and the PDHPE team for their excellent organisation of a slick and highly enjoyable carnival from start to finish.

The holidays offer a chance for rest and rejuvenation for all, especially our wonderful teachers and staff. As ever, I am extremely grateful for their passion, dedication and unwavering support of the students. For our Year 12 students, the holidays are also a critical time of study and revision, with half-yearly exams set to take place straight after the break. Good luck to our Seniors as they reach this important milestone in their HSC or IBDP journey.

When term 2 resumes, it’s also the start of typhoon season in Hong Kong, and I have written to Secondary families this week about our need for up to date and accurate Emergency Dismissal information in iSams. If you need to update information for your children about their dismissal mode in severe weather events, please do so these holidays.

A reminder that in week 1 of next term, Friday 2 May is a staff professional learning day with no classes on campus. Our staff will be attending the Positive Schools Conference in Hong Kong which is one of the world’s leading events focused on student wellbeing in schools. The learnings and networking from this conference will play a key role in shaping our ongoing approach to building wellbeing literacy at AISHK.

Thank you for your continued support of AISHK and I wish you all a fun and relaxing holiday break with family and friends.

Peter Philips,

Head of Secondary
