On Friday the 6th of June, the careers team of Damian Bailey and Anthony Murphy welcomed over 30 international school counsellors and more than a dozen local university admission staff to the annual Round Table Discussion. Co-Hosted with Yew Chung International School (YCIS), the event focussed on the various aspects surrounding current student applications.

These included

  • Updates on application trends; popular destinations, most represented countries and popular or emerging popular programs.

  • Update on any admission procedural changes.

  • Topics related to admission.

  • Timeline of admission decisions.

  • Multiple offers made to an applicant, any update on the number of offers that students may keep and advice on choosing offers?

  • Admission interviews.

  • International student quotas.

A concern of many counsellors was the current higher education situation coming out of the United States and the implications on local admissions. A focus point being those students who have been offered a place in the US and how the new visa restrictions may impact them as well as the HK institutions.

Other happenings in the careers department

  • ‘Become your own careers advisor’ is continuing for Year 10 students. We will be available to answer questions about Senior Subject Selection on the night of the 17th June, at the Year 10 parents’ information night.

  • Year 12 students and their parents are meeting with us to discuss their post school plans. If parents are unaware of this, please talk to your child.

  • An aspect that is often forgotten in the application process is accommodation at university. Most residential colleges are currently taking applications for 2026.

  • School references are being written for the Year 12s, and these will be distributed at the valedictory events in Term 3. If references are needed earlier, please contact us ASAP.

  • We have met with other visitors to AISHK from various industries. From schools and universities in Australia, to professionals in a variety of occupations, we have welcomed their insights, advice and guidance.

As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Take Care
