During our Year 7 Activity Week, Year 7 students visited the Po Leung Kuk Campsite in Sai Kung to learn, create memories, and build resiliency. The activities we did throughout this week included kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, canyoning, BBQing and a variety of team building challenges.
Although snorkeling was challenging because the water was cold and our bodies were shivering, we still tried our best and saw loads of black sea cucumbers, fish and some coral. When we finally returned to shore we were greeted with delicious burgers and hot chocolate which made the experience more rewarding.
Kayaking brought plenty of fun and was one of our fondest memories. We raced to an island and got to explore, finding giant clams and lots of crabs. One of the highlights was having seaweed fights with my friends, and on the way back, we collected floating seaweed that looked like brain cells. By the end, almost our whole kayak was filled with seaweed!
Hiking let us connect with nature, and climbing rocks during canyoning was a highlight, especially with delicious burritos afterwards.
At night, we would have night activities which were actually our favorite part about the whole camp. We played games such as the cardboard box race which was a standout event. On the final night, we got to make skits based on something we learned. This was honestly a lot harder than I expected because everyone had different ideas. After using our communication skills to finally decide on something, it turned out quite good!
Back in our dorms we had a great time together, playing card games and having snack parties that filled our nights with laughter and joy. We overcame feelings of homesickness by supporting each other along the way. Often, everyone slept right away since we were all exhausted.
A personal goal was to develop friendships and become more useful, and our teachers encouraged us to build our resiliency. We made lasting memories, formed bonds, and learned new skills. The camp was an incredible experience overall, and we are proud of ourselves for successfully achieving our goals.
