Year 7 Student Crowned Champion at Steinway & Sons Piano Competition

Year 7 student, Brandon Lam, won the Championship in the Amateur Group of Ages 10 to 13 across the Hong Kong and Macau Region at the 89th Steinway & Sons International Children & Youth Piano Competition held from 25-26 October. 


Brandon performed Sinfonia in A Major, BWV 798 by JS Bach, Valse Impromptu, S.213 by Liszt and Toccata by Filippenko. showcasing different features across classical music periods.


“I felt very honored to be recognized, and I'm grateful that the judges appreciated my style of music interpretation. This competition is of a very high standard, and the finalists' performances were truly impressive. We all put in a tremendous amount of effort into our preparation, and I deeply admire each of my fellow competitors.”


Looking ahead to the 12th Steinway & Sons Piano Competition China Final in December, he said, “It will be my first time visiting Shanghai. I'm expecting lots of spectacular performances on stage from both amateur and professional groups, and I hope mine will be one of those!”
