This week Year 6 students invited the Year 5s to play their handmade boardgames, designed to challenge the players' Maths skills. All the Year 6 boardgames were created to be engaging, fair, and challenging, while incorporating mathematical concepts.
They meticulously designed their board games which included spinners, comprehensive rules and player tokens. Some students also added currency and challenge-cards.
Head of Year 6 Kate Elliot said: "The games challenge was a fantastic opportunity for Year 6 students to share their projects and peer teach Year 5 students, enhancing the learning experience."
Reflections from the Year 6 students:
“I think my board game helped Year 5 students develop more knowledge about fractions, decimals and percentages because I had questions about all of them and I helped them when they didn’t understand the question”.
“I included risk elements into my game so that the game could balance out maths and also a few fun challenges”.
“I helped them understand how to unpack a fraction and show them how you figure out the question. At the end of the game, they could answer the questions themselves and I was so happy that they could!”
