Year 12 Student Receives Early Offer from Macquarie University

Securing an early offer to study in the prestigious Macquarie University Law and Business Leaders and Achievers Entry Scheme is an outstanding accomplishment. For Year 12 student Kristy Ng, the offer is the culmination of years of hard work, leadership and a passion for both law and business. 

Read on to learn more about her journey and what helped her achieve this exciting milestone. 

How did you feel when you received the news that you had been offered a place at Macquarie University? 

I was absolutely thrilled to receive the early entry offer. Waiting for the outcome was quite nerve-racking, so seeing the acceptance email in my inbox was an enormous relief and a very exciting moment.

Macquarie University has always been one of my top choices, and studying a double degree in Law and Business is something I have been working towards for a long time. Receiving the offer reaffirmed that all the hard work and commitment had been worthwhile. 

How did you prepare your application, and what aspects of your experience at AISHK do you think contributed to its success? 

I was incredibly fortunate to receive support from teachers including Mr Phillips, Ms Darby, the Careers Advisors and in particular, Mr Wray, who provided valuable guidance throughout the application process. He encouraged me to apply through the Leaders and Achievers Scheme and helped me present my experiences effectively. 

As part of the application, I reflected on two key leadership initiatives: establishing and running a law extracurricular club in partnership with the Justice Centre Hong Kong during Term 1 and serving the school community as Vice-Captain this year. 

I believe these opportunities, along with the leadership, communication and organisational skills I developed at AISHK, played an important role in the success of my application.

What inspired you to pursue a joint degree in Law and Business?

My interest in Law and Business began in Year 9 when I studied Commerce. That experience sparked my curiosity and ultimately influenced my decision to undertake the HSC pathway, particularly because I was eager to study Legal Studies in Years 11 and 12. I have really enjoyed these subjects and the opportunity to deepen my understanding of both fields.

What excites you most about studying these fields at university?

I am excited to continue exploring two areas that genuinely interest me while keeping my future career options open. A combined Law and Business degree offers both flexibility and a strong foundation for a variety of future pathways.
