As part of our IB CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) programme, Year 11 students recently visited the HKFYG Jockey Club Organic Farm in Yuen Long for an afternoon of hands-on learning, teamwork, and environmental engagement. The experience provided students with an opportunity to connect with sustainable agriculture while developing skills and knowledge that align with the CAS strands of Creativity, Activity, and Service.

The visit began with a brief introduction to the HKFYG Jockey Club Organic Farm, where students learned about the farm's mission and its role in promoting sustainable and environmentally responsible farming practices in Hong Kong. This introduction helped students understand the importance of organic agriculture and the positive impact it can have on local communities and the environment. Students then worked in teams to make DIY vegetarian rice paper rolls, developing creativity, collaboration, and communication skills while preparing and enjoying healthy food together.

During the farm tour, students learned about organic farming methods and the vegetables grown on-site, gaining a greater appreciation of sustainable food production. The visit ended with a pot plant workshop, where each student planted sunflower seeds to take home and care for.

This experience connected strongly to all three CAS strands: Creativity through food preparation and planting, Activity through hands-on participation and exploring the farm, and Service through learning about sustainability, responsible consumption, and environmental stewardship.

Overall, the visit was an enjoyable and meaningful CAS experience that encouraged teamwork, reflection, and greater awareness of local and global sustainability issues.
