As we race towards the end of the school year, here’s what EC has been up to.
♻️Recycle Update
We’ve seen our new recycling program grow with great success over the course of the year and are very proud of the students and staff for working together to change and improve their habits. We’ve recycled a total of 3705.2kg from February - November. We still have lots of work to do, hopefully we can continue this trend into 2026.

🌏TASS (The Alliance for Sustainable Schools)
Our EC Leaders assisted our TASS representatives this term in conducting a biodiversity audit of the Green Roof in preparation for the second TASS meeting. We discovered that the roof hosts a wide variety of plants—some decorative, some edible, and many that are not native to Hong Kong. In 2026, we will use this data to deepen our understanding of biodiversity at school. Our goal is to learn which plants can thrive on a Green Roof, identify species native to Hong Kong, and explore ways to enhance biodiversity.

Green Roof Audit Photos
Our TASS representatives met online with other schools across Asia in Week 4 to discuss and share the results from their biodiversity audit. We learned just how diverse ecosystems can be within Hong Kong. We also discovered how schools in places like Dubai address desert conditions by running grow programs for native species.
Keep an eye out for more information about TASS in the future.
🎄Eco-Friendly Holiday Tips
Here are some sustainable holiday tips:
Shop locally – Not only does this cut down on carbon emissions, it also supports local businesses.
Reuse holiday decorations – instead of buying new decorations year after year, store them in a box to reuse next year
Gift experiences instead of things – movie tickets, theme park visits, holiday excursions all help to reduce waste
DIY gifts – Make cards, upcycle items, make some crafts/artwork or homemade treats to give out
Use reusable wrapping – festive bags can be used multiple times. You could even make your own wrapping using craft paper or newspaper.
Avoid glitter and plastic ribbons – These often end up in general waste and can contaminate the waterways when they breakdown into microplastics.
Unplug decorations/turn off lights when not in use – this saves electricity
