Secondary Students Celebrate Science Week

Secondary Science Week took place from 10-14 August, inspiring curiosity and discovery through this year's theme, "Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All."

Head of Science Andrew Hill explained, "Plants are essential in maintaining a healthy biosphere and stability of global temperatures. They are essential to life on Earth. Seeds represent the germination of new ideas, problem solving and growth in knowledge, which is the lifeblood of science."

Students celebrated the theme through a range of activities. Year 10 student Ruby won a photography poster competition showcasing Australian plants in Hong Kong, while students also voted in an ABC Australia poll for Australia's most amazing wildflower.

In the classroom, Year 7 students investigated seed germination, Year 9 students explored how plants maximise photosynthesis and Year 10 students visited the Hong Kong Space Museum to learn about the formation of Mars and the future possibility of growing food on the Red Planet.

The excitement continues beyond Science Week, with Australian Science Week celebrations underway, the premiere of the 2026 AISHK Science Week film and the Year 8 Science Fair presentations taking place in the week commencing 31 August.
