Roobotics Team Claims Overall Championship at Hong Kong FIRST LEGO League

Congratulations to the Roobotics team, Year 10 students Thomas Pulsford, Adrian Koo and Billy Cheng for winning the Hong Kong FIRST® LEGO® League.  They made school history by claiming the title of Overall Champions!

The FIRST® LEGO® League challenges students to design, build and program robots using the LEGO® Education suite, while developing skills in STEM, problem-solving, teamwork and innovation. The league is an international competition and teams from, Vietnam, Thailand, Lithuania, Morocco and Italy all took part. 

Secondary Teacher Danny Freer praised the team's commitment. “I was incredibly impressed with the team's teamwork and dedication. They worked very independently and put in long hours preparing, barely sleeping in the last few days leading up to the competition. There was a real sense of teamwork and collaboration, working toward a common goal."

Reflecting on the victory, Thomas described the win as pleasantly surprising. "We faced a lot of formidable teams who were organised and cohesive. We weren't one of the best in any particular area, so we didn't expect to win overall. This being our first year, we lacked a bit of experience and direction. To overcome this, we experimented early and frequently to rapidly identify mistakes and adjust without investing too much time.” 

Billy said winning the championship in the team's first year was "very exciting and unbelievable. Not only was it my first year, but it was also the school's first year in the competition. We had to figure everything out ourselves, so it was incredibly rewarding to see all our hard work pay off."
