Each year, our school participates in the Battle of the Books (BoB) Competition. Starting in Term 4, students begin reading the 20 BoB books in preparation for the inter-school competition the following year. This year our team headed to Beacon Hill School to compete against five other schools. The Year 5 and 6 students were proud to represent our school and demonstrate their knowledge of the books. While we weren’t the winning school this year, every student is commended for their commitment to being part of the team, developing a range of skills and being passionate readers.
Students' comments:
“I enjoyed BoB because it was fun to make new friends and read books.” - Lily, Year 5
“I loved BoB because it was an amazing experience and a wonderful opportunity. It is always fun and if you love reading, it is perfect for you.” - Jessica, Year 5
‘I joined BoB because I have a love for reading. I am really glad and grateful to have a unique and happy experience. I developed some skills for reading but I mostly just let myself become immersed in the fabulous books.” - Rebecca, Year 5
“We joined BoB because we wanted to improve our memory and reading skills along with love for reading too. We enjoyed being with Mrs Brown and our team mates, reading new genres of books, going to the library but most of all the competition day.” - Ting Ting and Alyssa, Year 6
“I joined BoB because I wanted to represent our school and try to help it win. I thought my skills would help. I liked the fact that BoB is kind of like a game show. The main skill I learnt was trusting my teammates because I like double checking information and we only had 20 seconds to answer the questions, so I had to trust my teammates even if it led to many incorrect answers! My favourite book was A Spoonful of Time. It’s okay at the start and middle but the plot twists near the end are so worth it. I won’t spoil the surprise but it’s amazing. If you like novels and if you like competing, then come and join BoB later this year and maybe help AISHK finally get a win! - Aiden, Year 5
“I enjoyed how I got to meet new people and knowing what I had to read. I developed a sense of being able to read faster. Elf Dog and Owl Head and House Swap. House Swap was great because the part where Allie actually showed that she loved her siblings was the best. Elf Dog and Owl Head was generally all good and I liked the magic. Overall, I think that BoB was really fun, getting to know different people and challenging myself to read and memorise many books and authors." - Anya, Year 5
