It has been a big week for Secondary students, who have shown great maturity, dedication and resilience in completing their yearly examinations. Teachers have commended the students for the focus and determination they have displayed in revising for exams and the seriousness with which they have approached the week.

The main goal of exam blocks in the junior Secondary years is to build skills and confidence performing under examination conditions, and I am very proud of the students for embracing this challenge so diligently. Developing effective study skills is key to academic success in Secondary school and I am pleased to share that Dr Prue Salter, a regular visitor to AISHK and one of the world’s leading experts in study skills research, will be working with our students and parents in April next year. More details to come.

Once teachers have marked exam papers and given students feedback, semester 2 reports will be released in the final week of school. Semester grades (A to E) reflect your child’s progress and performance in assessment tasks for each subject across terms 3 and 4, while the course median offers a sense of your child’s achievement relative to their peers. At AISHK, we place great emphasis on student effort as a measure of their commitment to personal excellence. Effort grades are based on aspects like homework completion, engagement in classes and learning activities, organisation and preparedness to learn. Each semester, merit awards and the prestigious Head of School awards recognise students who have shown exemplary levels of effort in all their subjects.

With exams over, there is an exciting range of activities and events coming up in the final weeks of term. This includes a combined CAS and careers week for Year 10 students in week 8 that will give them exposure and insights into post-school pathways and options. Recent parent feedback in the MMG stakeholder survey indicated that continual enhancement of our careers guidance and education programs is a key priority and it was pleasing to see many Year 11 families attend the recent information session led by our careers advisors. In 2026, there will be dedicated careers education periods built into the Year 10 timetable as students prepare for senior studies.

We are also looking forward to hosting the AISA games next week which will be a fabulous festival of sport and friendly competition and a wonderful chance to showcase our school. Good luck to all the Kangaroos athletes participating, may they do us proud on home soil.

Wishing all Secondary families a fun and fabulous weekend.
