Meet Jane Thomas, Head of Primary AISHK

I am happy to be writing this from my new office at the Australian International School Hong Kong! While the view outside my office window is different, the laughter, squeals of delight, and the general school noises are similar to my previous school in Melbourne.

My name is Jane Thomas, and I have recently moved here from Melbourne, where I spent the last 20 years working at Melbourne Grammar School. I began my journey as an educator at the University of Canberra and later completed my Master of Education at Melbourne University.

Originally, I come from a small, idyllic beach town called Narooma, located on the southeast coast of New South Wales. It was there that my love for education, curiosity about the environment, and deep passion for learning first developed. In my hometown, everyone knew everyone, and even now, when I return, familiar faces still greet me and ask, "how is life?" I hope to find similar comfort here in Hong Kong.

I am passionate about the development of young children and the importance of belonging to a strong community. I believe in the values of AISHK—educating the whole child through their mind, body, and spirit and I am excited to have already seen these values in action during my first two weeks. I hold the belief that learning through investigation and play leads to deeper engagement and a stronger, long-lasting understanding. We all know that happy, engaged children learn best.

I hope 2025 has started successfully for you and that your children have settled into the routines of school. Please do not hesitate to come and introduce yourself.
