Welcome to Term 4. I extend a particularly warm welcome to the new families joining the AISHK community this term.

I would also like to extend my very best wishes to all Year 12 students as they undertake their HSC and IB Diploma public examinations over the coming weeks. Your families, teachers and the wider AISHK community are firmly behind you and we wish you every success.

Term 4 is often one of our busiest and most rewarding terms with many opportunities for students and families to experience the breadth of school life. Some of these opportunities we look forward to include:

  • Early Childhood disco

  • Diwali celebrations

  • The Year 5 Leadership Workshop Day, supported by talented parent speakers who will generously share their professional experience, insights and perspectives

  • The secondary school 'HK Bridge CAS Fair'

  • The PA Sunset Soirée on 7 November, where we hope to welcome many parents

  • Year 6 Beijing Trip and graduation

  • House Mufti Day

  • Primary School Athletics Day

  • International sports tournaments

  • Jingle Mingle at the end of term

The Year 12 2027 Prefect Induction Assembly was held this week where we recognised our incoming prefects and their commitment to serving and leading the school community. Congratulations to all students on their leadership appointments. With their first official occasion completed, they now have the full support of our community. The prefects have shared their intentions to lead with purpose by including others, encouraging participation in school life and making a difference to our school. Thank you to Will and Emily our School Captains for sharing this meaningful intention.

This week a very successful Year 5 leadership workshop was held and when combined with the senior prefect induction it highlights how leadership develops throughout a student’s journey in our school. The Year 5 students will be encouraged to consider the 2027 primary leadership positions and by doing so continue to nurture a sense of service to others in our community.

Service learning is an important component of an AISHK education. In 2025, two of our senior students, James and Sophie, received a prestigious ACAMIS Service Learning Award. The award included a grant to support the development of a service-learning fair at AISHK.

Next week our Year 11 IB students will be hosting the 'HK Bridge CAS Fair' which is a direct outcome of the ACAMIS grant.  A significant amount of work has gone into the fair and its goal is to raise awareness of local and global issues. It is a wonderful example of students leading service learning. The students will welcome representatives from:

  • ImpactHK

  • Hanuman Charity

  • The Zubin Foundation

  • iACT Mind HK

  • Kids4Kids

  • Asia Birthday Happiness

  • Running to Stop the Traffik

  • Fu Hong Society

  • Bethune House

This advocacy commitment from students to global and local issues was also evident at the Year 6 Changemakers Exhibition at the end of Term 3. Through Changemakers the students shared their projects connected to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and explained the actions they had taken to make a difference.

Our students raised $13,065.05 for Crossroads at the end of last term. All money raised will be directed to the Nepal and China flood relief operations. Congratulations to our students on their fundraising efforts.

There are two important reminders for families and students as we resume the final term.

  1. Please ensure that students continue to wear the full and correct school uniform to school and wear the uniform properly. All students are expected to adhere to the school's dress code and support from families is requested to ensure we uphold high standards.

  2. Please also remember that AISHK is a phone-free school. We have seen an increased use of phones by primary students after school in the playground and cafeteria which is not in keeping with expectations.

The school needs the cooperation and support from families on these matters in Term 4.

Please note that 20 October is a Staff Professional Learning Day. The campus will reopen to students on 21 October. I hope you enjoy the upcoming long weekend, and I look forward to a purposeful term shaped by learning, student leadership and community.
