Last week ended with 200 excited students in Early Years taking part in an Early Years Disco.  A big thank you to Kat Troy, volunteer secondary students and the PA team for enabling this joyful occasion to happen.

This term, our Primary PROSPER learning focuses on Purpose and Outcomes. Students are exploring how having a sense of purpose at school can help them set goals and work towards success. Through discussions and buddy activities, students will reflect on challenges they have faced, goals they are proud of achieving, and what they have discovered about themselves as learners. They will also consider what success means and identify steps towards a goal before the end of the year.

Resilience is the ability to respond to challenges, setbacks and change. It does not mean that difficulties feel easy or that children must manage everything alone. Instead, resilient learners recognise when something is hard, use helpful strategies, seek support and keep moving forward.

Growth mindset is an important part of this learning. Children are encouraged to understand that ability can develop through effort, effective strategies, feedback and practice. Mistakes are not signs that learning has stopped; they can provide useful information about what to try next.

Families can support this learning at home by:

Asking, “What was challenging today, and what did you try?”

Praising effort, persistence, thoughtful strategies and improvement.

Sharing a time when you made a mistake, adjusted your approach and learned.

Helping your child break a goal into small, achievable steps.

Encouraging the word “yet”: “I can’t do this yet.”

When a child is struggling, pause before solving the problem for them. Acknowledge the difficulty and ask, “What could you try next?” or “Who could help you?” This balances encouragement with growing independence.

By working together, school and home can help children see themselves as capable learners who can approach challenges with purpose, learn from experience and celebrate progress. Small conversations and encouragement build the confidence and resilience children need for learning and life.

We hope you can support this learning at home and that you see growth in your child/ren being increasingly resilient.
