As we reach the halfway point of Term 2, learning across the Primary years is thriving with energy and purpose.

Early Literacy Milestones. Our Prep students are beginning to form words and simple sentences, laying the foundation for strong literacy skills. By Year 2, students are confidently constructing full sentences and exploring the structure of procedural texts. A recent highlight was 2M’s fairy bread activity, where students wrote detailed procedural texts and proudly delivered their creations to the Primary Office. An engaging and delicious learning experience!

Strengthening Literacy with InitiaLit We continue to implement InitiaLit, a structured, phonics-based literacy program developed by Macquarie University. Aligned with the latest Science of Reading research, InitiaLit supports students in spelling, grammar, reading, writing, and comprehension. In response to the high literacy levels within our community, Year 2 is refining its "scope and sequence" to introduce more complex texts and further challenge our learners.

Peer Support Program in Action

Our Peer Support initiative launched last week, with Year 6 students leading small, multi-age groups across the Primary school. These sessions provide a meaningful platform for our students to apply their leadership skills in real-world settings. The programme will continue over four weeks, with increasing complexity. We look forward to hearing the reflections of our Year 6 leaders at the conclusion of the programme.

Welcoming New Families

Last Saturday’s Admissions Day was a resounding success. Prospective students and their families had the opportunity to engage with our staff and experience the AISHK community firsthand. We are excited to welcome many new students in Term 3 and are proud that AISHK continues to be a school of choice for so many families.

Student Voice - Cafeteria food feedback

Our Primary School Captains recently met with a representative from Chartwells, our food service provider, to share feedback and suggestions. This leadership opportunity allowed students to advocate for their peers and contribute to positive change. Discussion points included:

  • Table and chair arrangements

  • Cleanliness

  • Portion sizes

  • Snack variety

  • Favourite meals from Primary students

We have already noticed recent improvements to the cafeteria experience and feel excited that students are leading the discussion.
