As part of Redress Month, 15 Secondary students participated in a hands-on mending and upcycling workshop on Wednesday of Week 5. The workshop aimed to raise awareness about the environmental impact of the fashion industry and to equip students with practical skills to extend the life of their clothing.

During the session, students learned essential techniques such as sewing buttons, gathering fabric, blanket stitching, and patching holes. They added a creative twist by incorporating contrasting colours and decorative mending styles. Old school shirts were given a new lease on life as students transformed them into unique, upcycled pieces.

This workshop is one of several initiatives taking place during Redress Month. Clothing donations are still being collected, with Week 7 marking the final week for contributions. Donations can be dropped off in the carpark, in front of the auditorium, on the 5th floor, or handed directly to the Creative Industries department on the 7th Floor. Clothing donations will either be recycled or resold as part of a “pop-up shop”.

AISHK is proud to collaborate with Redress, a Hong Kong-based, Asia-focused environmental NGO. Redress is dedicated to accelerating the shift toward a circular fashion industry by educating and empowering both designers and consumers to reduce the negative environmental impact of clothing.
