AISHK’s Green Roof in Full Bloom

AISHK Green Roof Club has been working hard, this year, to transform parts of the Green Roof into a vibrant urban farm, and the land is flourishing!

The regeneration of the soil has brought it "back to life." The sweet potato shoots grew to big tasty sweet potatoes and the lettuces and herbs bloomed!

To combat pests, they’ve introduced frogs to help manage grubs naturally. Recently, the Green Roof Club planted beetroot, peppers, bok choy, and even watermelon. They’re also building birdhouses and a small pond to support the local frog population and attract more wildlife.

Taran Chadha, Food Technology Assistant, shared, “We want to transform the roof into an urban regenerative food system, combining traditional techniques with modern technology to create a space for learning and mindfulness. It’s not just about growing food; it’s also space for students to connect with nature and learn sustainable practices.”

Stay tuned as we continue to nurture this green oasis and develop students' understanding of sustainable practices.
