This week, AISHK launched its Artist in Residence program. As part of the school's 30th anniversary celebrations the School welcomed professional artist Francesco Lietti to collaborate with students and staff on a large-scale artwork that will become a permanent feature on campus.
Francesco’s creative journey began with childhood sketches and comic books, evolving into a career in architecture across Milan, London, and Hong Kong. His art blends the vibrancy of urban life with the calm of natural landscapes, often inspired by his travels through Europe and Southeast Asia.
“I’ve always been fascinated by cities — their buildings, their people and how they interact with nature,” Francesco shared. “That’s why I find Hong Kong so special. It’s a dense, vibrant city, yet nature is always present. Just look out the window and you’ll see hills and the sea — a constant reminder of the relationship between urban life and the natural world.”
Over the next four weeks, students will be hands-on contributors, sharing ideas and drawings that will be collaged into the final piece. Francesco believes, “The outcome of the painting lies in the strength of the team."
“We want to create a beautiful artwork that lasts,” he said. “But just as important is the experience, for me, the staff, and especially the students. I think it's nice if it's a process where everyone brings something to the table and then everyone can feel proud that they participated through this process."
This week, Francesco introduced the project and began sketching the initial concept, ensuring students feel involved from the very beginning.
Using fast-drying acrylics and mixed media techniques, the project is designed to be both engaging and educational, fostering creativity, collaboration and a lasting sense of pride.
Stay tuned as we share updates and watch the canvas come to life!
