As autumn season approaches, the shift in weather will bring with it an increase of cases of respiratory illnesses like common cold and flu. Respiratory viruses, such as influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), COVID, adenovirus, rhinovirus, and enterovirus, would circulate during this time, causing influenza-like illnesses.

We encourage parents to enroll their children in Seasonal Influenza School Outreach Vaccination Programme (SIVO) provided by the Centre of Health Protection. This school wide event will be held on the 22nd of November 2025.

Below is a very useful home-based tool to guide you when to keep your child at home.

If your child shows any of the following symptoms, please keep them at home to help prevent the spread of illness:

  • Fever: Temperature of 37.5°C or higher

  • Cough

  • Sore throat

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Diarrhea or vomiting

  • Headache with fever

  • Poor appetite with any of the above symptoms

  • Fatigue with any of the above symptoms
