For the past four years, AISHK has celebrated Science Week with the premiere of a thrilling sci-fi film.
This year’s feature, Legends of Emberfalls: The Wizard, The Dragon and The Thief, continues a tradition that blends creativity, science fiction, and school spirit.
The film stars Year 11 student Sam as Skibiddy Roo, a sidekick character full of comic relief and unpredictable energy. Sam has performed in a number of productions inside and outside of school.
Sam explained that the experience was meaningful. She said, “Honestly, it made me feel loved. I have the highest respect for everyone involved in the production and they really supported me through the process boosting my confidence creatively. The cast itself—teachers and students acting together outside of class hours—it was a real bonding moment."
Working alongside teachers was both surprising and rewarding.
"At first, I was nervous but once we [teachers and students] became a cast we were all on the same level. It was fun and we joked around together. Now, I see them as mentors.”
She also shared how the experience helped her grow, “Resilience is probably the biggest skill I developed. As a comic relief, the joke's on you. I learned that I need to keep pushing through and committing to the character. The filming sessions were after school, so I had to keep my energy up at the end of a long day. But that’s the life of an actor and I believe you have to give it your all.”
“This movie changed me. I gained confidence and realized I love playing snarky characters. Seeing friends acting and doing their best and all the funny moments - this has been one of my favorite experiences at AISHK. I'm proud of the work we've made.”
Catch the premiere on 29 August!
