Head of School Message, Term 4, Week 3 2026
After Wattle and Waratah Mufti Day, one of our youngest students enthusiastically declared it “the best day of my life.” What a wonderful reminder that schools are not only places of learning, challenge and achievement, but where friendships, character, memories and belonging grow.
Recent weeks have reinforced this. Our IBDP students have begun their examinations, and we wish them every success. Their hard work gives them much to be proud of as they face the weeks ahead with strength and confidence. As HSC examinations end, one student proudly shared how support from his teachers and school community helped him navigate this stressful time with confidence and resilience. Reflecting on his final exam, he had a spring in his step.
Term 4 sport has also started positively. Our U18 boys’ rugby team showed great determination in a narrow loss to KGV, while our representative teams have recorded wins, championships and highly competitive performances. Results matter, but so does representing the school by supporting teammates, competing with purpose and showing up as a Roo. The newly developed Roos Way supports all students in sport and aligns with our PROSPER positive wellbeing framework.

Our commitment to the whole student continues in early November with boys’ mental health speaker Ryan Parke, who will engage our male students in conversations about wellbeing, identity and growing into young men. I joined Year 11 for his outstanding session in Hong Kong earlier this year, after which students recommended extending the opportunity to more secondary boys.
We are thrilled to congratulate Oscar, Year 7, who was awarded Second Class Honours in the International Junior Science Olympiad!
This highly competitive science contest recognizes young scientists across biology, chemistry, and physics. Oscar’s achievement is outstanding, your science teachers and I are all immensely proud of you!
We also look forward to announcing enhancements to our 2027 Primary Music program later this term, offering younger students more opportunities to participate, perform and develop a love of music.
Thank you to our Wattle and Waratah student leaders and staff for making mufti day such a success, and to our parent volunteers for baking and running the bake sale. All proceeds will support the students’ nominated Hong Kong charity, Life Commitment Charity Club, which does exceptional work with elderly people living alone. Having joined students volunteering in Sham Shui Po on weekends, I have seen their service learning in action. Their achievements, and the impact of these days, extend well beyond our school.
“The best day of my life” may be a high bar, but it captures how shared experiences build connection, belonging and memories, shaping our community and AISHK’s distinctive culture.
We celebrated and acknowledged the incredible work of our teachers this week as part of World Teachers’ Day. Their unwavering focus on our students and nurturing their personal potential never goes unnoticed by me. Thank you, AISHK teachers, for your dedicated professionalism, inspiration, care and effort.
