Australian International School Hong Kong is proudly celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year. With longevity comes aging facilities and a commitment to create learning spaces that serve our students now and in the future.
One of the major improvement works in 2025, now completed, is the air conditioning and air filtration system of the 9th floor swimming pool. No longer hot and humid, the pool is now comfortable for swimmers and spectators. All the changing rooms have also been refurbished for swimmers.
In January the ground floor student toilets and an accessible toilet/baby changing area were completely renovated. On the 8th floor adult and accessible toilets were also fully renovated. New larger Secondary student lockers were added to the 8th floor and classrooms were refurbished to create two additional seminar rooms adjacent to the senior common room.
During the July holiday break,
The 3rd floor Primary reception and spaces in this area were refurbished making them contemporary, bright and welcoming for students and visitors.
New water fountains were installed on every floor saving water, plastic and money.
Nonslip flooring was installed throughout the 2nd floor and the auditorium benefited from some repainting.
On the field, benches were recovered in sustainable high-density recycled plastic, the access road and the lines on the running track were repainted.
A project to replace all corridor lights with energy efficient bright LED lights was also completed.
Looking ahead to the December 2025 and January 2026 break, I am very happy to confirm,
The first phase of the Wellness Wing project will commence on the ground floor. The current tuck shop will be redesigned into a human movement lab for students and PDHPE classes. This initial phase of the Wellness Wing project will also integrate the PDHPE and Sport office.
The 1st floor cafeteria and coffee shop will be fully renovated and extended in size, so it can welcome more students, parents and staff.
More toilets will be renovated, and lockers and student desks will be replaced across the Secondary school.
Three 8th floor classrooms will be renovated as part of the upgrade plans for learning spaces across the Secondary school. In addition, the 8th floor Secondary reception, associated workspaces and a Learning Enrichment Centre will be redesigned and renovated to a high standard for students, staff and families.
Three Primary classrooms on the 4th floor will be renovated, redesigned and reconfigured allowing for one more classroom. This is the start of a significant enhancement to the style of learning spaces to be progressively refurbished across the Primary school.
The final phase of the current whole campus wayfinding project will be completed.
These campus improvements are part of a $65 million, 2025 - 2027 capital improvement plan, in place to ensure that AISHK can continue to offer a world class education.
2025 has been a busy year of gradual campus refurbishments. This work is far from finished and will continue in carefully planned stages so that there is minimal disruption to learning and teaching and projects are delivered within a ‘best-value’ model including improved activation of space on campus. We aspire for our campus to evolve for students, staff, families and our community over the coming years so that we have reimagined learning spaces well established by 2030. For now, there is thoughtful futures-oriented consideration of existing spaces, planning and significant project work our students, and the community will enjoy from the start of 2026.
