Upcoming ExaminationsÂ
Next week our Year 11 HSC students begin their Preliminary Examinations. Students are currently preparing for these examinations, with revision programs both inside and outside the classroom. Students are expected to spend time preparing revision resources such as glossaries, cue / study cards, practice drafts, and chapter summaries among other revision devices. This time prior to and during the examination period is a time for planned and dedicated study. Parents and carers can support students during this time in many ways which are outlined in the article below. Â

If your young person is finding the Examination period particularly stressful, please inform the homeroom teacher or Head of Year so we can offer additional support at school. Â

Some simple strategies to consider at home include a blend of academic support, emotional support and encouragement.  Â
Create a Study-Friendly EnvironmentÂ
Ensure they have a quiet, well-lit space with minimal distractions.Â
Help them organize their study materials and schedule.Â
Help with PlanningÂ
Encourage them to use a revision timetable.Â
Break subjects into manageable chunks and set realistic goals.Â
Provide ResourcesÂ
Offer access to revision guides, past papers, and online tools.Â
Consider tutoring if they’re struggling in specific subjects.Â
Monitor Progress Without PressureÂ
Check in regularly but avoid micromanaging.Â
Celebrate small wins to build momentum.Â
Encourage Breaks and BalanceÂ
Promote healthy habits: sleep, exercise, and downtime.Â
Suggest short walks, hobbies, or mindfulness exercises.Â
Healthy Meals & SnacksÂ
Provide nutritious food to fuel their brain.Â
Avoid too much caffeine or sugar.Â
