[Head of Secondary] Term 4 Week 10 Message

The final week of the school year has been one of joyous celebration of both student achievement and the unique community that is AISHK. Tuesday’s Speech Day provided a formal opportunity to recognise the highest levels of academic achievement after a year in which students faced many varied challenges. Meanwhile the Head of School and Merit Awards announced this week place emphasis on student effort over outcomes, a reminder that to strive for one’s personal best is at the heart of our school’s ethos. Finally, the festive Jingle Mingle event on Tuesday and today’s upbeat final Secondary assembly gave the chance for students to let off steam after an action-packed term and ring in the holiday season together.

Keeping with the theme of celebration, HSC results were released today, with many positive outcomes for our graduating students. Among these were prestigious All Round Achiever awards for Michael Lin and James Pattison (named school Dux on Tuesday), an honour bestowed on students achieving the highest band possible for at least 10 units of HSC courses. Nearly half of our students were named in the Sydney Morning Herald as Distinguished Achievers for receiving at least one Band 6 result. I will provide more fulsome commentary to the community of the cohort’s overall performance once the complete picture is known, with IB results due for release in early January. But until then, warm congratulations to our latest HSC graduates on their excellent results.

So with 2022 almost a wrap, there’s not much left to say other than a sincere thank you to all Secondary students, staff and families for making it so successful. After a difficult start to the year, our students have enlivened campus with their boundless energy, curiosity, camaraderie and eagerness to learn. Our teachers and assistants, meanwhile, have shown superb passion and care for their students, going above and beyond to help every student flourish. Finally, to all Secondary parents and families, thank you for your continued loyal support of the school and the love and support you provide at home.

Good luck to those Secondary families and staff leaving AISHK – we wish you every success and happiness in the future. And to those families looking forward to a long break reconnecting with loved ones after a very long time, may your holiday season be rejuvenating and truly special. Happy Christmas and see you not just in 2023, but in the Chinese New Year of the Rabbit!
