It is great to be starting Term 3 with the knowledge that the remainder of our instrumental program and our ECA and ensembles will be able to begin again.

String Ensemble and Wind Band

We are now offering tuition in all instruments through our instrumental program:

  • String Ensemble is rehearsing on Wednesday mornings from Week 3, from 7am – 8am
  • Wind Band is rehearsing on Friday mornings from Week 3,  from 7am – 8am.

If your son or daughter plays either a string, woodwind or brass instrument at around grade 3 standard, we would welcome them to join either of these ensembles. We will investigate combining the two groups to form the AISHK Orchestra for specific rehearsals in Term 4.

Ukulele Club

A new initiative, following the interest of many students, is our Ukulele Club. We will run two options for Primary students, either beginners or advanced on a Tuesday morning from 7:15am – 8am. If you have learnt a few chords in class and want to be a pro or just want to gain more confidence in ukulele playing, please sign up to one of these courses. We will be happy to place you in either beginner or advanced classes after the 1st few lessons if you are unsure.

Secondary Vocal Ensemble

The Secondary Vocal Ensemble will resume on a Tuesday afternoon  3:45pm-4:45pm after school, looking at singing as an ensemble in 2- or 3-part harmony and hopefully preparing for some upcoming events. We welcome both boys and girls for this ensemble.

Secondary Jazz Band

A newly formed Jazz Band will start rehearsals in Week 3, on a Wednesday afternoon from 3:45pm – 4:45pm. We are inviting both woodwind and string, as well as guitarists, percussionists and keyboard players with an interest in improvising and playing some jazz to join this ensemble. Players should be about grade 2 standard on their instrument with good music reading ability on their instrument.

Secondary Drama ECA

Another new initiative in the performing arts is our new Drama Club ECA for Secondary students run by Starlit Voice, a professional theatre company that also specialises in offering LAMDA examinations for drama. Their drama workshops include developing vocal production techniques for public speaking, acting and musical theatre. They are a well-established company, and we look forward to a partnership with them.

If you did not get a chance to see our Performing Arts Showcase Concert at the end of last term, you can visit the link here.

New Recording Studio

We are also very pleased to announce the opening of our new recording studio in room 202a. This is with thanks to the AISHK Parent Association who provided the funding for this initiative. Our students will now benefit from state-of-the-art recording equipment to enhance the work that they do in class. They will learn how to correctly place microphones, record and edit work that they record and learn some useful musical production techniques appropriate for the 21st century. We are very excited for this initiative and look forward to hearing some great hits recorded by our AISHK students.

If you are interested in signing up to any of our ECAs, please apply through the school ECA program. For other queries or to sign up for our instrumental program please contact myself peter_stapleton@aishk.edu.hk or performing_arts@aishk.edu.hk

With best wishes.
