In-School Instrumental Lessons Return in Term 2

Dear Parents and Students,

The Performing Arts Department is excited to tell you of our intention to recommence individual instrumental lessons in school at AISHK.

Starting in Week 4 (Monday 3 May) our instrumental programme will start in school for Term 2 with the following instruments: piano, violin (and viola), cello, double bass, guitar (electric guitar, bass guitar and classical guitar) and drums. The lessons will be taught with respect to current school operating hours, from 7:45am until 12:45pm. Lessons will operate on a rotational basis for Primary students, with limited places reserved for Secondary students during recess (11:15 to 11:45am) or before school (7:45 to 8:15am). Brass, vocal and woodwind lessons will not run in Term 2.  We will consider starting these lessons in Term 3.

Our instrumental lessons at AISHK are taught by well-established teachers in Hong Kong, many of whom have extensive performing experience both in Hong Kong and internationally. Our instrumental lessons are tailored for the individual student, concentrating on the musical development for their chosen instrument. Whilst the importance of technique is seen, teachers will also encourage students to try a wide range of repertoire and performing styles. Students are encouraged to read musical notation as well as develop their aural skills. Students may take instrumental exams such as ABRSM (which is the international equivalent of AMEB), although this is entirely optional. Other performance opportunities are also encouraged, which could be entry to the Hong Kong Music festival or participation in our primary recitals and other concerts hosted by the performing arts faculty. Above all else, it is our desire that students to gain a life-long love of learning to play a musical instrument and appreciate the enjoyment that it brings.

If you are interested in having instrumental lessons in school (even if you have previously been enrolled in our programme) please can you complete the Google form by clicking on this link.

Instrumental Introductory Scheme

For those students who are interested in learning an instrument but have not quite decided yet on which instrument they should choose, they may enrol in our Instrumental Introductory Scheme. This programme allows students to have two trial lessons on three different instruments in one term.

Please note that lessons will be provided for the Introductory Scheme in 2021 for either Term 3 or in Term 4 if this is possible.  We will however require applications as soon as possible in Term 2 in order to make sure that we can offer the appropriate instruments.

More information about this, as well as our regular instrumental programme policy can be found here.

Once you have submitted the Google form for enrolment into instrumental lessons, Ms Daphne Tse, our Performing Arts Administration Officer, will create the timetable for lessons to start in Week 4 of Term 2. She will then contact you by email with details of the schedule for students. We will not be able to offer any fixed lesson times and we kindly ask that we are given 24 hours notice by email or on phone in case of student absence from lessons. If you have any questions about our programme, please contact

I am really looking forward to welcoming back our instrumental teachers to AISHK and seeing our students enjoying instrumental lessons once more.
