Year 3 Newsletter | Term 1 Week 6

The Year 3 teachers would like to thank all of the parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles who participated in our interviews for History last week. We have totally enjoyed reading the responses and watching the videos. It brought about some very rich conversations about the changes that have occurred over time.

Week 5 and 6 Curriculum Overview

In English we are continuing to investigate point of view using the Dr Seuss story; the story is told by the ‘Once-ler’. The children completed a character profile on ‘The Lorax’ or ‘The Once-ler’. This included writing about the character’s appearance, personality, what they do in the story and the changes that occurred from the beginning of the story to the end. They used a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast the two characters. Using this information, the children wrote an imaginative text from their chosen character’s point of view including interesting nouns, verbs and adjectives.

Year 3 has been learning to use the ‘Jump Strategy’ and the ‘Split Strategy’ to solve addition and subtraction sums.

Next week they will be moving onto number patterns.

Across Country

The HKPSSA (The Hong Kong Primary School Sports Association) ‘Across Country Challenge 2021′ continues with the Hong Kong edition. The student and parent community collectively run the distance of around Hong Kong as many times as possible. Each school collates the overall kilometres they have run (or walked) from Monday 1 March to Sunday 7 March. This is then added to a Google Form (Click Here) at the end of the week and then to the schools leader board. There will be a ‘virtual title’ for the class that clocks up the most kilometres in each year group, and an overall ‘virtual title’ for the top class. This is from Year 1 to Year 6, so everyone can knock out some kilometres! Please let me know if you have any questions. You can also learn more about the event here:
