The Mini and Junior Duke Award 2021

Welcome to 2021 and welcome to the Mini & Junior Duke Award program here at AISHK. In the frenetic world we live in here in HK, it is hard to give our children the ‘full range’ of opportunities to develop the core skills needed to flourish in life. Introducing The Mini & Junior Duke, the award that gives children the time and space to develop their skills of independence, resilience, inquiry, organisation, and self-motivation through a journey of life skill challenges. Some of you may have been involved in the Duke of Edinburgh Award or the AYP here in Hong Kong, it’s just like that, but for Primary age kids.

As part of our school Extra Curricular Activities Program, students from Years 1 to 6 that register, will be provided with a series of progressive life challenges including first aid, cookery, swimming, budgeting, fixing punctures, domestic duties and lots of other creative activities to expose them to the skills needed for the real world. The award allows children to participate in a variety of new experiences and teaches them that it is good to ‘have a go’ and challenges them to learn new and varied skills from an early age. This helps them to develop the resilience they will need throughout their lives whilst rewarding them for their hard work. Most of these activities can be completed out of the school environment and many in the home, hence, we are launching it now during the current restrictions.

The Mini & Junior Duke Award has been running in schools across the UK since 2007 and has helped thousands of children aged 6 to 12 to realise their abilities and, for some, to discover new talents and passions. It has now made it internationally and several schools here in HK are getting onboard. This program will run from February through to November, 2021. Could your child be next?
