Year 3 Newsletter | Term 4 Week 10

We hope you enjoy reading what we have been learning in Year 3. It also has questions and activity suggestions that you can use to prompt your child about their learning. It is packed full of important information about upcoming events.

Wow! What a fun 3 days we had at camp last week! The teachers were all so impressed with the teamwork, kindness, positivity and perseverance we saw the Year 3 students exhibit! Students took on a picturesque hike, built shelters to withstand the elements, scrambled over rocks in canyoning and took to the seas in kayaking. Most importantly, they went outside of their comfort zones, tried new things and reflected on their experiences and growth.

Year 3 students have explored the difference between ‘reading like a reader’ and ‘reading like a writer’ and continue to consider how author’s use word choice to create impact. They have experimented with using colloquial language, adjectives and adverbs to create their own texts with impact.

When reading with your child, point out interesting words or phrases and ask them to suggest a time they could use that in their own writing.

As we get closer to the end of a busy year, Year 3 are finishing off their unit on 3D shapes and looking back over the year to find areas to revise. This revision covers topics such as multiplication, division, addition, subtraction and so much more.

Encourage your child to log into Mathletics and enjoy the activities related to a concept they are less confident about.

This term, we have looked at Australian states and territories, capital cities, climate zones and neighbouring countries. The next step for Year 3 students is to pull it all together and consider how they can present the information to educate others. We are looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

How can you support this at home?

– Ask your child what they have enjoyed about this unit and what the top 3 things they think people need to know about Australia are.
