Interhouse Touch Football Victory for Waratah

Week 7 saw the first and only Interhouse sports competition for 2020 with touch football being played across the Years 7-11. Conditions across the week were at times hot, but all teams made the most of the opportunity, with plenty of players available on the bench. Each day had a lovely feeling of community to it, and Friday finals were held during activities time allowing all Secondary students to spectate.

The Years 7 and 8 mixed competition was always going to be unpredictable with Year 7 being untested at House events so far this year. Despite some strong showings in the rounds from all Houses, Waratah were clear winners come Friday afternoon finals, taking out the game 2-0 over Wattle.

The Years 9 to 11 competition was hotly contested with many round games going down to the wire. Seasoned veterans of House sports were keen to show their skills, but it was also great to see many students representing their House for the first time. The final between Wattle and Jacaranda went in to extra time as the scores were even at the end of regular time. The drop-off system soon saw both sides consisting of three players. Wattle were able to make the most of the situation, scoring a golden try in extra time.

Many thanks to our House leaders – Mr Stoevelaar (Eucalypt), Mr Bailey (Waratah), Mr Campbell (Jacaranda) and Mr Mui (Wattle) – who gave up their lunch time each day to guide their teams around the park. Mr Stoevelaar also provided knowledgeable and entertaining commentary for finals. Also, thank you to Mr Pilgrim, Mr Tait and Mr Cunningham for refereeing the games.
