It may have been a short week but productivity has definitely been high for our Year 2’s! Our Year 2’s have been thinking and reflecting on their learning over the last two weeks and wanted to share their ideas with you below.
In Numeracy, we have finished our focus on money and students let their creativity shine by creating their own shop and currency! Classes have been investigating the properties of two-dimensional shapes and applying it to a problem solving situation. They enjoyed creating tessellations and working together with others.

“I really enjoyed creating my own shop with Antonia and Stella. We made an ice cream shop and my favourite part was making our own money.” – Nina Kokubun 2J
‘I enjoyed the 2D shape art where I could use the shapes to make a house.” – Liam Miller 2B
“I enjoyed learning how to give change while we were learning about money.” – Jeshua DeSilva 2B

In Science, we have waited patiently for our sunflowers to begin sprouting and made predictions about what might happen next. We have begun our investigations into the Earth’s resources comparing the differences in natural and man-made resources and students considered what resource they thought was most important to them.

“We had a lot of fun planting sunflowers and making predictions about how the sunflowers would grow.” – Rhea Biyani 2J
“I have enjoyed writing my sunflower diary. My sunflower is growing well.” – Trinity Hurley 2B
Some classes have already had fun reconnecting with our Year 5 buddies and others are looking forward to meeting them over the coming weeks.
“My favourite part of buddies was drawing the pumpkin and choosing the colours with my buddy.” – Isabel 2J
English and Literacy Groups
Literacy rotations are in full swing with a range of reading and spelling activities and students have been learning about prefixes, suffixes and compound words in English.
“I liked learning about compound words where you connect one word and put it together with another word to make one word.”– Cody Barr 2M
“I enjoyed doing a prefix and suffix word hunt. I can now find a prefix in a word and a suffix.” – Bella Wong 2J
“I made a really cool compound word game. It helped me learn and remember my compound words.’ – Skye Nguyen 2C
“I have really enjoyed the different spelling activities we have been doing in Literacy rotations. My favourite has been writing bubble letters.” – Caleb Cheng 2J
In ICT, Miss Yeung has been working with students to develop their coding skills. Using the Dash robots, students learnt how to program their robot to make it complete different sequences of movements.
“I worked with Kiko to use the Dash robot. I liked coding it to make it do different moves.” – Janelle Lee 2C
“Bosco and I programmed the Dash robot together. I really enjoyed watching it move in different ways.” – Jayden Lee 2C
“I had lots of fun in ICT doing things with Dash. The funniest thing Dash did was when he turned around and Olivia and I weren’t expecting it!” – Phoebe Shadforth 2C
