Normally, in Term 3 the Performing Arts department is delighted to present the annual Primary Recitals. Usually, these would involve students from Prep to Year 6 performing a range of musical instruments in four different recitals according to age. Sadly, these live performances were not possible this year, but instead we asked students to submit video recordings of themselves playing at home. We have edited the videos and are excited to announce that these will be shared with our community in Week 3. Our students will also get the opportunity to see these in their classrooms.
We are extremely pleased with the way this has gone and I am sure you will agree the results have been truly wonderful. With a total of 115 performers, we have split the videos according to year groups and the links to these will be sent to Primary parents individually.
We truly value our musicians and performing artists at AISHK. Playing an instrument or being involved in dramatic performances certainly helps students to increase their levels of confidence, whilst also being an extremely valuable tool for expressing emotion. For many it is also a way to escape daily stresses and transport the mind to another place. There is proven benefit from learning a musical instrument and engaging with music lessons, and this ranges from increased spatial awareness to improved co-ordination, as well as creative processing and enhanced cognitive ability.
Children who receive regular, structured music lessons, generally show improved language-based reasoning as well as the ability to plan, organise and complete tasks. These skill developments are regarded as being transferable and therefore often lead to overall improved academic performance.
Whilst we have not been able to run our in-school instrumental lessons this year, we are truly looking forward to being able to offer our Instrumental Introductory Scheme, as well as our regular Instrumental Music Programme in 2021. A link is provided here for further information.
We also look forward to seeing a return to live performances both within our own Performing Arts department at AISHK as well as around Hong Kong.
I very much hope you enjoy our Primary Recital videos.
