It has been a wonderful couple of weeks having students at school and seeing how well they have transitioned to being back on campus. Students are feeling safe, comfortable and connected with their peers and teachers which is all testament to the relational culture we aim to develop at AISHK. With the weather warming up and students moving about more than they did during online learning, there are a few tired students at the moment. However, with busy corridors, noisy lunchtimes and a lot of smiles on faces, school is looking and feeling the way it should!
Please read below for updates from the Primary Division.
On Wednesday 17 June, parents will have access to the mid-semester report via the Parent Lounge. As communicated earlier this year, the report will look different to those of recent years. With students completing majority of learning online this semester, the report focusses on what has been have achieved by the student. This report will not have any tick-boxes other than reporting student ‘effort’ on a 5-point scale. The report will include a detailed narrative from the classroom and Chinese teacher along with an overview of all key learning areas. For the report at the end of Semester 2 in December, we will revert back to the same report format as those of Semester 2, 2019.
Ms Indica Herbert, our Literacy Intervention Specialist will go on maternity leave from the start of Term 3 until the end of the school year. Ms Abbie Mullan, who has worked as a teacher at AISHK previously and is currently studying her Masters in Special Education Needs, will replace Ms Herbert until the end of the Year. We wish Ms Herbert all the very best and look forward to welcoming back Ms Mullan.
Ms Anita Lee, our music teacher for Years 2-6 will be leaving at the end of Term 2 to move to Japan. She will be replaced by Ms Aliki Watson-Jones, who is Australian and currently teaching in Shanghai, having worked in Australia, England and China. We wish Ms Lee all the best in the future and we look forward to welcoming Ms Watson-Jones at the beginning of Term 3.
Online learning for students who are currently unable to attend school on campus will conclude at the end of Term 2, as in Term 3 we will move all our focus to face-to-face teaching. For families who are currently not in Hong Kong, we do encourage you to return so that your child can continue their learning on school campus in Term 3.
Today, we held our first ever live streamed assembly at AISHK. Our Leadership Assembly today saw our Head and Deputy Head Boy and Girl, House Captains, Environmental Managers and Student Representative Council members all receive their badges. While we would have liked parents to be with us in the Auditorium, it did allow us to reach a greater audience including all students in Primary along with parents and families. We look forward to seeing our new leaders contribute to AISHK and making it an even better place to be.
We are looking forward to bringing back Seesaw to share with parents the learning which is taking place in the classroom. This is a great opportunity for parents to gain an insight into what happens in the classroom without being on campus and also provides students with greater ownership over their learning. You will have a received an email from your child’s class teacher about signing up. If you have signed up for Seesaw before with AISHK, you do not need to do anything as your child’s class from last year will be rolled over. If you are a new parent, please follow the prompts from your child’s teacher to create a Seesaw account. For an informational video with more detail and to see how Seesaw is used at AISHK, please click here.
Last Day of Term 2
School will finish for Term 2 on Friday 19 June. Please note that this is a full day of school with our current staggered finishing time in place from 2:30pm-2:45pm for Prep-Year 6.
We wish everyone a wonderful upcoming break and look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday 20 July.
