For writing this fortnight each class is doing the preparation work to take a different approach to the same theme, exactly as the authors of our 4 picture books have done with the theme of journeys. In our case, we are imagining that we need to leave our home through some sort of natural disaster. We are creating a documentation of life before that event or flashpoint, during the journey when we leave our homes, and finally what kind of life we find at the end of our journey. Some classes are writing diaries and others are taking the form of a blog.
Our current unit it called Aussie Adventures and is based on ‘visiting’ various scenic spots in Australia. Through this investigation students will be introduced to the skills of multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000, using maps, using picture graphs and measurement in kilometers. They will revise and refine their skills of addition of larger numbers, estimation and rounding.
Now that swimming is over (except for the Swimming Carnival), Year 4 is back at House Sport every Tuesday afternoon. We are doing striking and fielding games until the end of the year – cricket, t-ball, kickball and Chuck the Chicken. Yes, you read that right, and Year 4s think Chuck the Chicken is hilarious!
