AISHK Roos’ Dominate the Primary Soccer Tournaments

We have now concluded the main U11 Soccer season with the HKPSSA, which included two tournaments for both boys and girls. The AISHK teams fronted with considerable success in all tournaments. The first of the tournaments was the Kowloon schools which includes 10 member schools. AISHK were represented by a Girls team and two Boys teams (division 1 and division 2). All teams went unbeaten through the pool stages with wins or draws to top their groups, which was very impressive.

The girls played a good Kellett team in the semi final which ended as a draw. In new rules being trialled this year, it went to 3 vs 3 for a golden goal. The deadlock could not be broken so it went to 2 vs 2. Our gutsy girls held their nerve and popped a goal to take them through to the Kowloon Schools Soccer final against Harrow. Well prepared, the Roos’ girls controlled the game from the beginning, picking up a couple of early goals. Harrow fought back but our girls were too strong winning 3-2 to be crowned the Kowloon Schools’ Girls Soccer Champions for 2019.

Our division 2 boys had some tough matches throughout the day, but the continued improvement took them through to the semi final with confidence. The boys battled hard and created enough opportunities to control and dominate the semi-final, winning 3-0. A tough final against a strong Discovery college side was next and the boys really stood up. The match was extremely even, however our opposition managed to deflect a ball off our own player, into the back of the net. Although the boys were disappointed, they played extremely well and can be proud of their efforts.

The Roos’ premier boys team, were not only fighting for a title, but also for a good seeding in the Hong Kong Championships. With every opposition team being tough, our boys had to get into their groove early. Topping their pool, the boys were hungry a for a good win in the semi-final. We were met by a very strong ICHK team in the final. ICHK scored 2 early goals and seemed to have the game wrapped up, until the AISHK boys stepped up their game and controlled possession and territory. Unfortunately, we could only pick up one goal, losing the final 2-1.

Our girls team went into the HKPSSA Soccer Championships, held at KCC, with great confidence. We couldn’t quite find our rhythm early on finishing our pool in 2nd place after a loss, a draw, and a win. The girls went on to play some memorable matches, including our Plate semi-final loss to Discovery College which went through two lots of golden goal (3 vs 3 and 2 vs 2), finishing with a penalty shoot-out. Our girls can be proud of their efforts, finishing the tournament with a win and 7th place out of 20 schools, beating DBIS in the last game of the day.

The boys team ventured out to the HKFA Training Centre for the HKPSSA Boys Soccer Championships. On a beautiful but freezing day our boys managed to go through their pool unbeaten. GSIS were next in the semi-final and were dismantled 5-0 by an unstoppable AISHK team. However, we were to meet ICHK in the final again and unfortunately went down and finished 2nd out of 20 schools. A fantastic effort.
