Year 2 Newsletter | Term 4 Week 8

As we approach the end of the school year, it has been wonderful to see the continued determination, good humour  and enthusiasm of our students, particularly during the last few weeks. There is no doubt that the boys and girls of Year Two 2019 are now ready for a well deserved holiday before the excitement of joining Middle Primary next year. With many happy memories from this year to look back on, they also have much to look forward to in our final two weeks together.

After completing our work on homophones, contractions and proper nouns, we are now looking into how we write formal and informal letters (just in time for letters to Santa!). We have been investigating all of the ways that we write to communicate with people who live far away and this has linked nicely to our lessons with Mr Ohlson, where we have been learning how to write and send emails.

Mass and Capacity have been recent focuses of our Maths lessons. Students have really enjoyed using standard and non-standard units of measurement to weigh a variety of classroom objects. After learning about grams and kilograms, we even challenged ourselves to find out how much some of our favourite animals weigh!

We have now begun to bring a festive feel to our Maths investigations with some Christmas themed activities. We are also very excited to start some Christmas craft rotations next week, where students will have a chance to work in different Year Two classes. Watch out for some awesome Christmas tree decorations coming home soon to hang on the tree!

Year Two Assembly

Our final Early Childhood Assembly for the year, hosted by Year Two, will take place next Friday. We hope that you will be able to join us for what should be a wonderful celebration of the year we have had. Students are looking forward to sharing some of their favourite memories with you and will also be sharing thoughts on what they are looking forward to next year. Our end-of-year awards will also be presented in the assembly so there should be plenty of great photo opportunities! We look forward to seeing you there.

Class Parties

Friday the 6th December will be a double celebration! Not only will we be hosting assembly but we will also be having our class parties. These occasions are a fabulous opportunity for us to celebrate our hard work over the last twelve months and also farewell those who are leaving us. In the coming days, your child’s class teacher will email you with a spreadsheet of foods that can be brought in for our celebrations. Please indicate what you will be able to provide and these items can be brought into class on the day of the party. We ask that all items brought in are nut-free.

Early Childhood Athletics Carnival and Primary Art Exhibition

It was wonderful to see our students artistic and sporting talents on display this week. Congratulations to everyone who was involved in both of these fantastic school events.

Transition Morning

On Wednesday morning, our Year Two students had the chance to experience a morning in Year Three. It was wonderful to see them arrive back in class with big smiles on their faces and excitement in their eyes. Our next transition session will take place on Wednesday next week and we encourage you to ask your son or daughter how they found the experience. Hopefully, many of their questions, and even a few worries, have been addressed but please let us know if there is anything you would like to know more about.

You may choose to place your order via one of the following methods:

  1. Visit the Uniform Shop with your child for a fitting and purchase what is required. No appointment is necessary. Please be mindful, the start of the day and the end of the day are always busy therefore we thank you in advance for your patience.
  2. Alternatively, if you are confident you know your child’s sizing, simply fill in the appropriate order form from the School’s website and place the completed form in your child’s home diary with the exact payment (cheques should be made payable to ‘Midas Ltd’). The items will then be delivered to your child’s classroom as soon as possible.
  3. Your child may go to the Uniform Shop either before or after school or during their recess or lunch break where our staff will measure and fit them for their uniform. They will then give them a completed order form for your appropriate action to place the order, as per the steps in 2 above.

Please note that at the start of the 2020 school year, the Uniform Shop’s special opening hours are allocated to new student arrivals only, therefore please ensure you purchase your child’s new uniform prior to the end of this school year.
