Term Three is always a wonderful celebration of children’s literature at AISHK. The theme for Book Week 2019 is ‘Reading is my Super Power’ and reading does indeed give us powers: the power to walk in the shoes of others through their stories; the power to escape into other worlds; the power to improve vocabulary and imagination…the list goes on. In weeks 1-3, all classes will read the shortlisted picture books and in week 4, the boys and girls will vote for their favourite book. The winners will be announced during the Book Week assemblies.
Our Book Week celebrations will be held in Week 5. This year, students may borrow from the Library on their scheduled day and we will host special activities throughout the week. On Friday 23rd August, we have the following events:
- Students may dress up as their favourite book character or perhaps their costume will be connected to this year’s theme.
- Parade-all classes will parade on the field from 8:15am-8:35am. There will be a class photo opportunity at approximately 8:30am. This year, secondary students also have the opportunity to join in.
- Early Childhood Assembly will be held at 8:45-9:15
- Primary Assembly will be held at 9:25-10:05
This year, we are trying something completely new for our Primary Reading Challenge (P-6) which will run from 12th August. More information will be sent out closer to the date.
I have received some wonderful photos of the boys and girls reading over the holidays. If you haven’t had the chance to email one through, it’s not too late. I’d love to collect some more photos from you of your children reading for a Library display. Perhaps you happened to snap a great photo when you were on your recent holiday? Please email photos to email@example.com
